Out in the Wildernest…

Posted by: Jolvin on: September 20, 2007

In today’s connected world it is sometimes very difficult to get rid of your mobile phone or your anywhere net connect if you are on vacation. I think some people just don’t learn. Nevertheless with my wife in tow and my mobile and my second ‘wife’ (my uncle calls my laptop that) I land up in this place nesting at the confluence of the borders of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.

Borders are interesting, 2km to the left was Goa, and 2km to the right was Karnataka, while this place was in Maharashtra, yet nothing changed in the natural flora and fauna except the man made signs.

True to its name Wildernest is a nature resort away in the wilderness. With 2 hours + away from both Panjim and Belgaum, this is far off from the hustle and bustle of the towns. Its all natural look with wooden cottages having large glass french windows facing the Swapnagandha valley are a treat to be in. Imagine watching the clouds kiss the Sahyadris without getting up from your bed. The walk to the cottage entrance is as natural as it could get with no pavement to the entrance and the walk to it a mini trek. All meals are the local delicacies and after a treacherous trek to the waterfall base avoiding the hungry leeches making you a couple of ounces lighter the meals are tastier.

I can go on and on about this place, yet I will fall short of explaining the experience my wife and I had. This is a must for anyone who is city fatigued or a nature lover. Preferably do it in the non touristy months of October – February. Obviously now I’m out of the Wildernest and closer to a town, hence this post.

Go ahead – Go out into the wilderness…get disconnected from the virtual world and get connected to the real world.

@dharma – lucky or not – I enjoyed this place :)

the best laid plans are often undone by an irate phone call.
armchair traveler that i am, forever looking for a short reprise.

this new year plan to make it somewhere. hopefully will write about it as well.

@phish – yeah you bet. And to top it all I did have that irate customer call in the middle of nowhere.
Look forward to your new year getaway writeup.
